Promoted to Glory: Major Lynette McConniel

Aug 24, 2025

Major Lynette McConniel was Promoted to Glory at sunrise on August 9, 2025, in Oklahoma City, OK. She was 88.

Patricia Lynette Ange was born on March 4, 1937, in Washington County, NC. She was the daughter of Henry and Mary Ange and grew up in a large and loving family alongside her brothers Jack, Charlie, Snookie, and Donnie, and sisters Helen, Mary, and Betty Ann. She was lovingly known to her family as “Trish.”

In 1957, Lynette answered a lifelong call to serve others when she entered the Evangeline Booth College as a member of the Faithful session of cadets. This launched her remarkable 45 years of ministry as an active Salvation Army officer, beginning with her first appointment to the Cumberland South Corps in Maryland. Two other corps appointments followed at Falls Church, VA, and Prince Georges, MD.

The next ten appointments were mainly within the Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) ministry in Atlanta, GA; Fort Worth, TX; Tampa, FL; Washington, DC; Houston, TX; Memphis, TN; Birmingham, AL; Oklahoma City, OK; back to Atlanta; and Dallas, TX. She also held two appointments at the Georgia Divisional Headquarters, inserted between the final two ARC appointments.

She retired from active service on April 1, 2002.

Major Lynette McConniel is preceded in death by her husband Major Dick McConniel; her parents; seven of her eight siblings; a daughter-in-law, Kathy McConniel; and a granddaughter, Stevi McConniel.

Five children survive her: Major Richard (Janeen) McConniel, David McConniel, Christine (Dan) Putnam, Jeff (Leanne) McConniel, and Michelle (Jim) Smith. One brother, Larry Ange, also survives Major Lynette. Her legacy continues through numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were blessed by her warmth and guidance.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on September 13, 2025, at the Lewisville Corps in Texas.
