Shelter for the homeless, food for the hungry, and clothing for the poor provided with care and compassion is what The Salvation Army does best. We believe that lives can be changed for the better and we minister tirelessly to that end. Learn more about our homeless and social services here.
Towers Center of Hope
At the Towers Center of Hope we provide housing for single women and families, and transitional housing for men. We seek to provide a safe and stabilizing environment to help get people back on their feet. Both shelters are located in our Social Services building at 900 W. Adams Street in downtown Jacksonville.
Seeking Shelter?
Call our social services office at 904-356-8641 for information on availability and rates. Our friendly staff will be happy to help you.
Our shelter is located at:
900 West Adams St
Jacksonville, FL 32204
Towers Center of Hope housing for men
We are pleased to offer a newly renovated housing facility at our 900 W. Adams Street location in downtown Jacksonville. The entire second floor of the facility has been completely renovated for a new purpose: providing housing for men seeking a fresh start after homelessness, addiction recovery, and for young men aging out of the foster care system. Each of these populations often encounters limited options for housing as they seek to become self-sufficient, and tend to be vulnerable to the cycle of homelessness and addiction. The new Towers Center of Hope could be considered an example of the “housing first” philosophy, which advocates for establishing a stable and affordable housing situation for those on their way out of homelessness or recovery. This gives them a critical opportunity to save money and get securely back on their feet. The Salvation Army’s Towers Center of Hope will also provide residents access to additional tools to make improvements in their lives to increase their odds of success, such as the on-site availability of case managers, and including hot meals and all utilities in the already low cost of living at the facility.
Monthly Fees for Single Men:
- Dorm Room, Shared Bathroom: 360.00
- Semi-Private Room, Shared Bathroom: 450.00
- Private Room, Shared Bathroom: 525.00
- Private Room, Private Bathroom: 550.00
Red Shield Lodge shelter for single women and families
Families who have shelter needs can remain together while receiving short or long-term shelter care at the Red Shield Lodge. Families can stay at the shelter for a month at no charge. After a month, fees are based on income, and three meals per day are included. Single women can stay at the shelter for up to eight nights at no charge. The cost after eight nights is $10 per day and includes three meals per day. Integrated case management services are provided to assist with life skills, referral service assistance, job preparation and placement, advocacy, and housing.
Pathway of Hope Program
The Salvation Army’s Pathway of Hope initiative provides individualized services to families with children who desire to take action to break the cycle of crisis and vulnerability that repeats generation after generation. It seeks to address the root causes of poverty in addition to The Army’s history of compassionate serving. By helping families overcome challenges like unemployment, unstable housing, and lack of education, we can lead families down a path toward increased stability and, ultimately, self-sufficiency.
For more information about the facility or to find out about our rates and available rooms, please contact: The Salvation Army Social Services Center at 904-356-8641

This program helps our shelter residents get back on their feet with job preparation and placement, budgeting, transitional housing, debt relief counseling and educational programs. Each training program is tailored to the person’s individual needs and comprehensive case-management services are provided.
Rent and Utility Assistance
When funds are available, we provide help to assist individuals in financial crises. To inquire about fund availability, call our Social Services office at 904-356-8641.

No Thanksgiving would be complete without a special meal. We provide enough food for a complete holiday meal, including a whole chicken or turkey and assorted canned and dry goods to income-eligible families.
Angel Tree / Toy Shop
When families struggle to make ends meet, Christmas can place a burden on parents who can't afford presents for their kids. Our Angel Tree program provides toys, clothing and stockings for children up to twelve years of age at Christmas. Gifts are donated by local individuals, families, churches and other organizations at “Angel Trees” throughout the community and distributed at the Toy Shop shortly before Christmas.
Camp Keystone
Each summer, at-risk children from low-income families in the community enjoy a week-long, overnight camping experience at beautiful Camp Keystone in Keystone Heights, Florida. It's a fun-filled week of play, rest, and spiritual enrichment.

Misdemeanor Program
The Salvation Army has been operating the Misdemeanor Program in Duval County since 1975. The Salvation Army Correctional Services is fulfilling its mission to provide for those in need, including those in conflict with the legal system by effectively managing programs that rebuild lives. Our Correctional Services program utilizes the programs within our network to help provide a more holistic approach to the client, including short-term housing, food vouchers, rent subsidies, utility assistance, holiday program, clothing, furniture, prescriptions, employment and transportation.
The Salvation Army Correctional Services program operates at no cost to taxpayers and averages between $200.000-$250,000 in restitution payments to victims in Duval, Clay and Nassau Counties each year.
Creating Productive Citizens
The men and women who have been court-ordered to report to Salvation Army Correctional Services case counselors must keep regularly scheduled appointments for a period of three to twelve months to discuss their probation cases and their living and employment situations as a condition of their probation.
Clients may be on probation for any of a number of non-felony offenses, from driving under the influence to issuing bad checks. In addition to paying a monthly fee for the cost of supervising their cases, clients may also be required to pay restitution to The Salvation Army on behalf of their victims. The Salvation Army Correctional Services case manager is trained in techniques that ensure contact with the client therefore creating a positive mentoring relationship. This relationship quite often extends past the completion of probation providing the client with a continued resource in the community. It is our goal to teach our clients to become a productive members of the community.
Batterer’s Intervention, Anger Management Program and DWLS Program
Another component of The Salvation Army’s Correctional Services program is our Batterer’s Intervention Program, a 26-week curriculum serving men in Duval and Nassau Counties who have been court-ordered to complete the program as a result of a conviction for domestic violence. A weekly two-hour educational class helps clients to understand their need to replace existing power and control behaviors inflicted on their victims with appropriate, nonviolent behaviors that promote equality in their relationships. Successful completion of the program not only fosters a safer environment for family members, but it also nurtures stronger relationships and contributes to a healthier self esteem for offenders and a safer community. The Salvation Army’s Anger Management Program is another time-tested program designed to help men and women by teaching them specific techniques and skills to improve their ability to cope with anger. The eight-hour curriculum, conducted in Clay, Duval and Nassau Counties, serves clients who are court ordered to complete the course as a condition of their probation.
The DWLS class is a court-ordered class that is state certified under The Florida Safety Counsel in Orlando, Florida. The class is 6 hours and helps an individual to reinstate their license and confront the behavior and attitude that leads to the loss of their license.
Probation clients must frequently perform community service hours as well, and Salvation Army counselors help clients meet that requirement through referrals to non-profit organizations that accept community service clients. Our probation counselors also monitor clients who are under “house arrest”, and implement impoundment of DUI vehicles.

The Salvation Army not only provides services that address tangible needs, we are also a Christian church, standing ready to serve your spirit as well. Weekly worship services are open to everyone and built upon the love, grace and forgiveness of God through the redemptive power of Jesus Christ. Whether you already know the love of Christ, or you want to discover His transforming presence, please join us for the weekly church service near you.

Good Deeds and Good Deals
The Salvation Army Family Store supports our many outreach programs by turning reusable goods into much needed funding. Proceeds generated by Family Store sales are used to give tangible assistance and offer hope to First Coast residents.
Because our stores are fully operated by The Salvation Army, the proceeds go directly into our charitable work. In fact, every dollar generated by our Family Thrift Stores is used to fund our Adult Rehabilitation Centers. These centers help over 60,000 people work through various life issues each year, ultimately working to assist them in rejoining their communities as productive members. Additionally, our stores provide thousands of employment opportunities for the general public and work therapy opportunities for people in rehabilitation to learn valuable vocational skills and regain their self-esteem.
We do not solicit government funding for this program. The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center rehabilitative ministry is made possible through the generosity of individuals, organizations, and businesses who donate goods that can be sold in our family thrift stores and provide services that are made available to the participants of our programs.
For donation pick-up, call 1-800-SA-TRUCK.

William Booth, the founder of The Salvation Army, dedicated his life to helping people. He had a special place in his heart for the destitute and the downtrodden. There are people in our community who share his love for those who struggle and who carry out his mission today. The William Booth Society is The Salvation Army's most prestigious donor organization. Members are leaders who cause positive changes in their community by allowing their compassion to compel them to action.
Why is the William Booth Society important?
The counterparts of today's members of the William Booth Society were active over a century ago in England. From the earliest years of The Salvation Army, many public and private individuals of rank - members of Parliament, clergymen, business leaders - backed Booth's social service programs with major gifts. They supported Booth in his efforts to fight against poverty and to fight for ways to help the poor help themselves to a better life.
A nationwide struggle with old and new social problems is waged daily thought a network of programs in Salvation Army social service centers and corps community centers. But Salvation Army leaders must constantly devise new approaches and strategies to meet changing realities. In these initiatives especially, the contributions of members of the William Booth Society are indispensable. Their sustaining gifts to The Salvation Army often create breakthroughs in whole problem areas, as well as affect meaningful improvements in the lives of families and individuals.
Being a member of the William Booth Society is an outward symbol of an inner commitment to help people in their hour of need. All funds are used in the community where they are given.
How do I become a member?
Members of the William Booth Society contribute $5,000 annually to The Salvation Army. Memberships are renewed annually through the donor's continued demonstration of support. To become a member, simply donate at least $5,000 and you will be enrolled in the Society automatically. You can also contact Robert Devers at 904-301-4867 to coordinate your enrollment.
What are the criteria for giving?
- The gift is annual
- The gift may be either remitted in full or pledged and paid in increments throughout the year.
- This gift may be from an individual, foundation, corporation, or organization.

Clothing, linens & toiletries are provided by individuals, businesses, churches & clubs. Food is provided by individuals, grocery stores, restaurants, businesses, churches & an occasional grant.
Financial Assistance
Financial assistance is provided to qualified households through federal, state, local & private grants; & through individual donors. Availability & assistance levels vary based on program requirements. Some services are sponsored by the State of Florida Department of Children and Families. We administer on-going assistance programs for FPL and COFB. Our “Move That Mountain” Fund is designed to help working people successfully move through an unexpected crisis.
Emergency Travel & Gas
We remain the only agency or ministry in NE FL that routinely provides transportation assistance to families and individuals. In 2017, 214 families representing 451 individuals received gasoline, Registered & Transit vouchers, bus tickets & inner tubes helping them get to work, the doctor, obtain IDs, go home to far-away family & more. Funding is provided by private donors & occasional grants.
Weekly Worship Service
People from diverse backgrounds gather together here on Tuesdays at 12:00 Noon to worship the Lord, study His Word & to encourage, enjoy & learn from each other.

Court appointed probationers may perform their required community service hours working in a place where we sow seeds of encouragement, vision & hope for a better future.

Camp Keystone
Each summer, up to 10 low-income Nassau children ages 7-12 experience 5 days of wonder, excitement and adventure at Camp Keystone, our Salvation Army camp in Keystone Heights.
Smart Start for School
Qualifying children from low-income families beam when they receive their school supplies & backpacks just in time for the first day of school. Local businesses, churches & individuals provided 97 age-specific backpacks & supplies for some of the neediest students in 2017.
Senior Angel Tree
In partnership with the Council on Aging, low-income seniors are not forgotten at Christmas. Churches, businesses, clubs & groups adopt one or more senior, & then purchase gifts & gift cards for them based on their “wish lists”, bringing them joy; providing them hope & raising their awareness that they are not forgotten. 183 Seniors were lavished in love in 2017 through this program.

Every spring, hundreds of hungry folks converge on the Prime Osborn Convention Center in downtown Jacksonville, anxious to sample scrumptious recipes offered by Jacksonville area “celebrities.” Diners stop for a nibble from each station, where a local “celebrity” is serving up a spoonful of their favorite recipe. The two-hour event includes a silent auction, which raises thousands of dollars each year for special projects. Always present at the auction are such items as artwork, collectibles, jewelry, dinners, spa treatments, sports memorabilia, weekend getaways, rounds of golf, designer accessories, and much more. Tickets are $30 and include the tasting event, silent auction, and a cookbook containing the recipes featured at the tasting. Parking is free. For tickets contact Darlene Uhler-Batiste at 904-301-4841. Thursday, March 26, 2020The 34th annual Celebrity Chefs!
