THE SALVATION ARMY TO RECOGNIZE PARTNERS AND VOLUNTEERS DURING APPRECIATION EVENT

CLEARWATER, FL (April 13, 2015) – The Salvation Army encourages everyone to come together for an afternoon of fun to celebrate those who give back to our community! In 2014, over 6,000 volunteers gave 17,528 hours of service to help The Salvation Army serve Upper Pinellas County residents.

From sorting food donations to providing toys to children at Christmas, The Salvation Army relies on volunteers as well as corporate and community partners to meet the growing need in our community.

 

On Saturday, April 25, all are welcome to attend Partner Appreciation Day at The Salvation Army, 1625 Belcher Road in Clearwater, as volunteers and community partners are honored. This event is open to the public; an RSVP is requested by April 20 to UpperPinellas@uss.salvationarmy.org or 727-725-9777 x 105.

 

Food, fun and games will be available from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., with a brief presentation of the Outstanding Volunteer Awards, Corporate Bellringer Awards, and the Outstanding Angel Tree Partner Award taking place at 12:30 p.m. Children of all ages are welcome as this is sure to be a wonderful event for the whole family!

Happy National Canned Food Month!

Why would someone want to celebrate canned food? Donations of canned food, and other nonperishable food items, help The Salvation Army serve the community in a BIG way!

Did you know? Last year, The Salvation Army serving Clearwater and Upper Pinellas County distributed food baskets to 24,488 households!

24,488 homes received a basket a food because our community is helping fight hunger. We could not serve so many in need without monetary donations, nonperishable food donations, and volunteers to help sort and package the food for distribution.

If you were a part of helping us provide food to those 24,488 households, THANK YOU!

What can you do to help this year?

When The Salvation Army runs out of food to give to those who come to us in need, we purchase food. If you would like to make a monetary donation to help purchase food when our shelves are empty, please click HERE and designate the funds for either Clearwater, FL or Zip Code 33765. This will ensure the funds are used to help residents of Upper Pinellas County – from Clearwater to Tarpon Springs and everywhere in between!

Your neighbors in need come to The Salvation Army for help all year round, as need knows no season. If you would like to help keep our food pantry shelves stocked so we can spend funds on providing other much-needed services, please consider hosting a food collection drive or donating nonperishable food items to our food pantries!

Do you work in an office? Attend a church? Have children in school? Go to a book club? It’s easy to host a food drive with your friends, family, co-workers or any group! Nonperishable food donations can be dropped off at The Salvation Army Social Services Centers at 1521 E. Druid Road, Clearwater, FL 33756 or 209 S. Pinellas Avenue, Tarpon Springs, FL 34689 (click the link for office hours). Looking for more ways to help? Before food donations can be distributed, volunteers are needed to help with sorting and packing! This process is extremely important because we need to have food baskets ready to give out at all times. Volunteers are needed to help count and sort the food donated through the Golden Can Food Drive with Pinellas County Schools!

The food must be sorted and bagged so it can be distributed through The Salvation Army’s food pantries in Upper Pinellas County.

Volunteers needed: 40

Date: Friday, January 23

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Shifts available: 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., 12:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Location: The Salvation Army Joy Center, 1521 E. Druid Road, Clearwater, FL 33756.

Children must be at least 12 years of age and accompanied by a parent.

  • 12/19 – 20, 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. | The Joy Center Toyland Distribution | Help families with their toy selection, distribute food baskets, and assist the families in getting their items to their vehicles!
