About The Salvation Army of Palm Beach County:

The Salvation Army of Palm Beach County, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church established in 1922, has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination for 98 years.

The Laura & Issac Perlmutter Foundation and the Nelson and Claudia Peltz Family Foundation have each pledged $100,000 to support the cause

West Palm Beach, FL (November 25, 2020) Giving Tuesday for Salvation Army of the Palm Beach County has always been about matching funds and the organization has always reached out for a sponsor to provide those funds.

“This year, we reached out to the Laura & Issac Perlmutter Foundation and the Nelson and Claudia Peltz Family Foundations hoping they might do a dollar-for-dollar match of some portion of our Giving Tuesday donations.  They knocked me off my feet when they said they would each match up to $100,000 to encourage others to pledge,” said Frank Marangos, Director of Communication for the Salvation Army of the Palm Beach County. “Both Foundations have been providing weekly deliveries of tons of food to our organization which will continue through 2021. This latest offer of a total of $200,000 is beyond our wildest dreams!”

“While our weekly food donations are helping feed thousands of our fellow Palm Beach citizens, there is still so many areas that need to be addressed because of the pandemic,” said Laurie and Ike Perlmutter and Claudia and Nelson Peltz on behalf of their foundations. “We are delighted that  funds will go to such programs as providing  some assistance to those affected by Covid-19 with rent and utility payments, ensuring housing and extended service for displaced or homeless Veterans, and helping working parents by offering daily online education assistance for their elementary school children, among other things.”

Since March, The Salvation Army has provided more than 100 million meals, 1.5 million nights of safe shelter, plus emotional and spiritual support to over 800,000 people across the US. “Based on the increase in services that we have already provided in response to the pandemic,” said Area Commander James Hall, “The Salvation Army of Palm Beach County could serve up to 155 percent more people in 2020 with Christmas assistance – assuming the resources are available. Thanks to the match grants provided by the two family foundations,” continued Hall, “we will be in a better financial position to help Rescue Christmas for the most vulnerable among us!”

West Palm Beach, Florida (November 20, 2020) Simple Life Medical, a COVID Protection Solutions company and the local partner Kira Labs, a premier hand sanitizer manufacturer, have donated 20,000 Hand Sanitizer Tubes (2.5 oz) to The Salvation Army of Palm Beach County. The tubes will be made available to The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Christmas Campaign throughout the state of Florida.

Since the start of the COVID pandemic, Majors James and Leisa Hall, Area Commanders of The Salvation Army of Palm Beach, have aggressively advanced initiatives to help individuals cope with medical, emotional, and financial difficulties. “Due to the pandemic,” said Major Hall, “there will be fewer days and locations that our bellringers will be out. I think it is amazing that Simple Life Medical and Kira Labs are providing hand sanitizer to safeguard the personal health of our bellringers and to reassure the public that we have done all we can to promote their safety when making a donation. One of our slogans,” continued Hall, “is ‘heart to God, hand to man.’ The sanitizers will ensure that the Army’s hands will be safe to grasp!”

Simple Life Medical designs COVID safety protocols that include a full line of PPE masks, thermometers, and sanitizers. The company specializes in developing innovative protection technologies such as non-chemical long-lasting surface protectors and UV Air/surface disinfectors. “We were entrusted by the leaders at the West Palm Beach Unit at the Salvation Army to assist them in making sure that their residents, employees, volunteers, and visitors were as safe as possible from the threats of COVID,” says CEO Miguel Mayorca. “Majors James and Leisa Hall were aggressive since early in the pandemic to respond to the threats so they could get back to doing what they do best, help people.”

Kira Labs is a global manufacturer of beauty innovations featured in more than 10,000 stores in 100 countries. The company had the insight to immediately pivot their cosmetic factory to create a line of much needed hand sanitizer at a time when it was almost impossible to source. According to David Rosen, “the entire team at Kira Labs is engaged in our donation program and we are all very proud and honored to partner with Simple Life Medical and the Salvation Army to provide essential products to those in need.”

Thanksgiving marks the start of the 2020 Red Kettle Christmas Season collection drive for The Salvation Army. The campaign, which ends on Christmas Eve, brings in a third of the Army’s annual budget.

The Salvation Army of Palm Beach County, through the wonderful support of its community partners and volunteers, has met the challenges presented with the outbreak of the Coronavirus.

With the resources provided, here are ways in which we have been able to adapt our efforts to serve those in the most need:

  • Introduced a drive-thru distribution process to assist the hundreds of families needing food
  • Instituted a system to deliver food boxes directly to impoverished neighborhoods
  • Improved the process and increased the level of financial assistance for those affected by COVID-19 with rent and utility payments
  • Partnered with the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and Florida Department of Health to prepare and deliver meals for those confined and isolated, including COVID-19 patients in quarantine
  • Altered our schedule at our Northwest Community Center to provide help for working parents by offering daily online educational assistance for their elementary aged children, while ensuring a safe and fun place for children to continue to thrive
  • Ensured housing and extended services for displaced or homeless Veterans
  • Enhanced our housing and concentrated case management for individuals and families experiencing homelessness
  • Increased our capacity to house, feed and offer professional care for those re-entering society from the prison system

With the closing of our Family Stores due to the “Safer at Home” order, much of our revenue supporting our programs and services was lost. It is only through the generosity of community supporters that The Salvation Army has been able to meet the growing needs of those impacted by the pandemic.
